Using AI? Be Responsible!
There’s been a lot of talk about the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) recently especially its influence in the medical, banking/finance, and transportation sectors, but I want to focus on what AI means to marketing your business or service and, when used responsibly, how it can enhance your marketing efforts.
In marketing, generative AI is used to produce text, images, or audio content. Realizing that marketing is equal parts art and science using generative AI makes sense – it’s the best of both worlds. But if you are going to incorporate generative AI make sure you understand the basics of it, and commit yourself to becoming a responsible user.
An important first step is to educate yourself about AI and learn what it is capable of. Remember though, AI isn’t a magic pill or wand that will miraculously make your marketing efforts appear! It’s a tool like any other strategy you use to build and market your business. And just like all the other approaches you implement you are the creator, the decision maker, and ultimately the one in charge! Find resources that will help you achieve your goals, and educators you can follow who can help breakdown AI’s functions and characteristics. Know what you what to achieve with this technology before you begin using it. There are lots of AI options other than CHATGPT that are available, see the list below.
Since AI is new and there’s lots of uncharted territory yet to discover, try familiarizing yourself with the legal consequences and Intellectual Property behind it. You should never just blindly copy anything without knowing how it will be seen in the eyes of the law and in your business.
So, how do you start becoming a responsible user of AI?
- Have a basic understanding of AI. I am going to assume that most of you are like me and did not go to MIT so trying to figure out how AI works is not the best use of time. What we can do to use AI responsibly is open our minds to how we receive and translate the data provided. Learn how to read the data it spits out, how it works across platforms, and how you can apply it to meet your goals.
- Use it to fire up your creativity! There is nothing worse than opening a new word document and having nothing but the blank page staring back at you. If you have lost your creativity generative AI can suggest messages, emails, and other marketing slogans and copy to help get your creative juices flowing. Try it out, there are lots of resources to choose from.
- Find the place in your business where AI makes sense. What area of your business is struggling? Customer service? Processing? Find the weakest link and incorporate AI into it. It may be just what you need to help kickstart whatever has been stalled.
If you want to test AI in your business, I cannot emphasize enough to be responsible! Don’t overdue or overuse it. AI is here and it is worth giving it a try, just know its power and how to control it!
